Feedback following the London Stock Exchange Jordan Capital Markets Day – March 28th 2008

This year's Jordan Capital Markets day at the London Stock Exchange was a resounding success with some 100 attendees and over 100 one-on-one investor meetings set up with UK, US and other European investors. Investor attendees included the entire range from some of the largest Jordanian investors to mainstream blue chip investors as well as a number of dedicated, boutique and hedge funds. The event underlined London's continued role as an ideal hub for investment, with a number of European and US investors flying in especially for the event.

This widespread and growing interest is bolstering the growth of London based Emerging Markets teams. Teams have increasingly at least one dedicated Middle East focused manager –and there is overall growing knowledge of, and familiarity with, the Middle Eastern markets in general, and Jordan in particular. Current Western (more mature) market volatility continues to fuel interest in Emerging Markets, making Jordan a key target as investors search for areas that offer attractive capital growth rates in a “secure” market environment.

Looking at the portfolio make-up of funds under management that showed an interest in the event, there are growing numbers that are diverting portfolio positions to Jordan. The blue-chip institutions are investing anywhere between 0.5% and 7% of their global portfolios in the Middle East and Jordan, with the specialist firms being anywhere between 40% and 100% invested in the region. As the economic cycles throughout the region develop Jordan will become an even larger focus of their investment strategies.
